“Home is wherever I’m with you…”

Do you have a feel good song? A song that can immediately snap you out of pretty much anything and everything?

Yup, you guessed it! I most certainly do have a feel good song. Mine is “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.

It’s a song about relationship. Big surprise that it would be my song, right?! I’m pretty sure that, by now, I have hammered away the point that I view relationships to be the most important thing/experience/moment/connection that we will ever have in our lives.

This song speaks to the very power of relationships. Essentially, the song represents a dialogue between two romantic partners…two people who could care less about anything other than their relationship.

Home is not a place but a feeling…a feeling of connection, security, trust, and love.

And while this may sound completely mushy and unrealistic…I don’t think that it is and I would even go so far as to say that the singers (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes) would say (or sing) the same.

It is always interesting for me to work with someone in the therapy room who is going through something particularly difficult…anxiety, depression, divorce, a big life change. It is interesting because what concerns people the most is the preservation of their relationships with others…not necessarily the big, scary thing that they are going through. A preservation of “home.”

Happy Thursday!
