“I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.” -Douglas Adams
That is one of my favorite quotes by Douglas Adams that has had a huge impact in my life. Recently on zenhabits.net, Leo Babauta writes on the experience of doing without an end goal in mind. This isn’t to be confused with mindless wandering, however. This is being mindful, full of purpose, but open to flow, experience, and curiosity. He writes:
“As things arise, you adapt, and let go of your plans and goals. You move with the flow of water, with the changing landscape. You are free to do this because you don’t care where you end up — you just want to be present in your journey, be compassionate with each step, have fun each moment along the way. The destination becomes irrelevant.”
The full write up offers a blueprint of living more in the present and being open to experience. It is well worth the read.
